Securing the NDIS for Future Generations

New NDIS laws have now passed Parliament as part of the Securing the NDIS for Future Generations reforms.

The changes will be introduced progressively over the coming years and will affect areas including who can access the NDIS, how plans are created and managed, how funding is used, and how providers operate.

While some changes are already in effect, many of the reforms will be introduced gradually from late 2026 through to 2028.

For now, participants can continue using their current plans and supports as usual. The NDIS will provide further information as changes are introduced and will let participants know if a change affects them.

NDIS Quarterly Performance Report Key Highlights: April to June 2026

On 30 June 2026, the NDIS had 782,013 participants.

This included 162,781 children younger than 9 years.

16,138 participants joined the NDIS in this quarter.

24% of participants aged 15 to 64 years have jobs that pay them.

69% of participants had their funding managed with a Plan Manager, 6% by the NDIA, and 25% of participants chose to Self-Manage.

The total amount of funding for participant supports in the year to 30 June 2026 was $51.2 billion.

The amount of money it costs to run the NDIS was $2.91 billion for the year ending 30 June 2026 – that’s 5.7% of the total cost of the NDIS

“What happens if I don’t use all of my NDIS funding before my plan ends?”

The good news is — having funding left over doesn’t mean you’ve done anything wrong. It’s quite common for participants to have unspent funding at the end of their plan.

Autism Awareness Australia becomes Autism Association of Australia

Same team. Same mission. A new name that reflects what they do.

Autism Awareness Australia has officially changed its name to Autism Association of Australia, reflecting the organisation’s evolution from raising awareness of autism to actively advocating for autistic Australians and their families.

As an independent national peak body, Autism Association of Australia advocates for change, influences policy and works to hold systems accountable. Its focus is on improving access to reliable information, practical support and meaningful systemic change for autistic people and their families across Australia.

As the organisation explains, the new name reflects a shift towards not just raising awareness of autism, but helping lead the change every autistic Australian and their family deserves.
The team, purpose and commitment remain the same — it’s simply a name that better reflects the work they are doing today.
