NDIS News

Updates to NDIS Plan Variation and Reassessment Rules

In March, the Department of Social Services released updated rules for NDIS Plan Variations and Reassessments.

Under the NDIS Act, participants can request changes to their plans, but the NDIA decides whether to approve them.

A plan variation modifies an existing plan, while a plan reassessment creates a new one.

NDIS Budget Wrap-Up: What You Need to Know

The latest federal budget highlights the growing costs of the NDIS, now exceeding $50 billion annually and projected to hit $64 billion by 2029. This makes it one of the largest government expenses, surpassing defence and education.

🔹 Key Updates:
Fraud Crackdown – $175 million allocated over four years to tackle fraud and improve integrity.
Better Supports – $424 million for evidence-based programs, connecting participants with carers and increasing accessibility in community spaces.
Employment Boost – A Specialist Disability Employment Program and a Disability Employment Centre of Excellence will create more job opportunities.
Stronger protections – Tougher oversight on dodgy operators to ensure participants get the care they deserve.

The focus? Improving the NDIS, not just growing it, to ensure long-term sustainability while enhancing support for people with disabilities.

How to Apply for the NDIS

Down Syndrome Australia Launches: Right to Work Campaign

Down Syndrome Australia has launched the Right to Work campaign, to ensure fair wages and meaningful job opportunities for people with Down Syndrome.

The campaign calls on the government to phase out the $3 wage, fund effective employment programs, and improve the Disability Support Pension for workers.

For more information or to support the campaign visit the website.

A Friendly Reminder: Appointments Preferred

We love meeting our participants and their families, and while we don’t mind the occasional walk-in, we’re much better prepared when we have an appointment booked. This allows us to give participants the time and attention they deserve.

Please note that our office is up two flights of stairs, which may be difficult for some visitors. To ensure accessibility for everyone, we’re always happy to arrange a meeting at a local café or another convenient location. Just reach out, and we’ll make it work!

We appreciate your understanding.
