The proposed reforms include changes relating to provider registration, fraud prevention, governance and plan management, which may impact participants and providers across the disability sector.

As these changes are still being proposed, there will continue to be ongoing discussion and consultation across the industry.

Good News

Pitch It Up, the Brisbane-founded cricket training aid created by entrepreneur Emma Thomson, has been named a recipient of the 2026 Lord Mayor’s Women in Business Grant, a program supporting women-led businesses to grow and expand their impact.

The funding will help fast-track the development of an industry-first audible cricket ball designed specifically for use with Pitch It Up’s training aid. The innovation aims to create more opportunities for blind and low-vision cricketers to safely practise and participate at home, in schools and within the community.

It’s great to see inclusive innovation continuing to create more accessible sporting opportunities for Australians with disability.

Gerard – Life Membership Award: Kookas

A huge congratulations to our very own Gerard, who last month was awarded Life Membership at the Kookas Cricket Club – becoming just the 10th person in the club’s history to receive this incredible honour.

Gerard’s involvement with the Kookas spans more than 30 years, starting back in the Under 12s in 1993 and continuing right through until his retirement in 2018. During that time, he played 13 years of 1st Grade cricket, including 4 years as 1st Grade Captain, and was part of 4 premiership-winning teams, playing a vital role in each success.

His contribution to the club goes far beyond playing. Gerard has been the club Treasurer since 2006, has run the Blasters program for the past 10 years helping introduce the next generation to cricket, and through Pacific Plan Management has proudly sponsored the club for the last decade.

Anyone who knows Gerard knows this recognition is about far more than cricket. It reflects the kind of person he is – loyal, humble, hardworking, honest, community-minded and always willing to give his time to support others.

We are incredibly proud to see Gerard recognised for his dedication and contribution to the local community. A very well-deserved honour. Congratulations Gerard!

Able Plus Adelaide

Last month, David attended two Able Plus events in Adelaide, our first time attending events in South Australia.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by for a chat. Catching up with the team from Cara was a highlight, and learning more about the incredible work they do supporting children and adults with complex disabilities across South Australia was inspiring.

We look forward to attending more events and continuing to connect with providers and participants across the country.
