Disability Advocates Call for Amendments to NDIS Legislation

Disability advocates and groups in Australia are calling on the federal government to address their concerns with proposed changes to the NDIS before passing the bill.

Key amendments include: defining NDIS support, empowering the NDIS quality and safeguards commissioner, implementing comprehensive needs assessments, and moving away from diagnosis-based admissions.

Play Communication Boards

Have you seen a Play Communication Board? They have been popping up in all ability Playgrounds. Communication boards are visual tools that display symbols, words, and pictures to help individuals express themselves. They support those with speech or language challenges, ensuring everyone can join in the fun and communicate effectively.

Why are they important?

Inclusivity: They provide a voice for non-verbal individuals, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can interact and play together.
Accessibility: By offering alternative ways to communicate, they break down barriers, making playgrounds accessible to all.
Learning & Development: They help children develop language skills and social interactions in a natural, playful setting.

We believe every child deserves the opportunity to play, learn, and make friends. These communication boards are a step towards making our community spaces more inclusive and welcoming for all.
